Goat

Goats should have thrived all over Ashenfall, and yet they seem to have migrated exclusively to the desert. It’s strange, because they aren’t really well suited to the region. They have thick fur, so overheat easily. Their little feet sink into the sand, and quicksand devours a great many of them every day. Yet, no matter how hard you explain to the goats of Ashenfall that they’d enjoy much happier lives elsewhere, the Umbral Sands is where they choose to stay. There is no reason for this. Trust us, we’ve asked. Still, over the years, where they’ve failed to adapt physiologically, they’ve adapted mentally and socially. There are few creatures as stubborn as a goat. They are utterly unwilling to back down from a dangerous area, preferring to power through no matter what the cost. There’s probably some life lesson or metaphor in there, but I’m not sure it’s one worth learning.
